The Northwest Regional Primary Care Association (NWRPCA) invites you to submit an abstract for consideration to present at the 2023 Western Forum for Migrant and Community Health.

General Information: The 2023 Western Forum for Migrant and Community Health will be hosted in beautiful Long Beach, CA, February 14 - 16, 2023. The Forum provides education and training, information and resource sharing, coalition building, and program and policy development for community centered health professionals and their partners.


Health & Safety: Your health and safety is our top priority. It is the policy of NWRPCA to inform speakers of any possible changes to the conference format, including but not limited to transition the conference to take place fully virtually.

NWRPCA continues to monitor the evolving COVID-19 pandemic and the current CDC guidelines, as well as the safety measures of our partners at the event site. We are endeavoring to provide a safe, collaborative experience for all attendees of the 2023 Western Forum.

In keeping with our commitment to model best practices in community health, the primary series of COVID-19 vaccination is required to attend the NWRPCA Fall Primary Care Conference. The primary series is a 2-dose series (Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna) or a single dose of the Janssen vaccine. COVID-19 boosters and flu vaccines, while not required, are strongly encouraged. Exemptions are not being considered at this time. Options to attend virtually will be available to those who cannot meet this requirement.

All participants (including Speakers, Exhibitors/Sponsors, Staff, and Attendees) must be fully vaccinated and will be required to provide proof of vaccination based on the instructions provided by NWRPCA Education and Training Staff closer to the event.

By submitting your abstract, you understand and agree to the health & safety protocols release and liability waiver located here as well as the vaccination requirement.


Venue: The 2023 Western Forum for Migrant and Community Health is confirmed to take place in person in Long Beach, CA. NWRPCA will continue to monitor and follow Federal & Local in-person gathering regulations and will make changes as needed.

Abstract Notification: Notifications of selected abstracts for the 2023 Western Forum for Migrant and Community Health will be sent, via email, by mid-November to all presenters. We will need your acceptance confirmation within 14 days of receiving your acceptance email. If more than one person is presenting, please identify the additional presenters. Please try to limit the number of co-presenters. We encourage every session to include a Community Health Center or Community Health Worker.


Presenter Honorarium: Each session is eligible for a Presenter Honorarium. Presenter Honorariums will be divided evenly among all eligible session presenters. Presenters will be provided with additional information upon abstract acceptance notification. *Federal employees WILL NOT receive Presenter Honorarium.


Abstract Selection: Abstracts are peer-reviewed on the basis of quality and clarity of the content, subject relevance (see relevant topics below), and the strength of the learning objectives. NWRPCA prioritizes presentations that are interactive and participatory. Abstracts should explain specific activities, methods or techniques that will be used to encourage participation in the session as well as any take home messages and/or tools that will be made available to participants. We encourage use of popular education methodologies.

*NWRPCA welcomes and encourages abstracts that are relevant to community health workers (CHWs), including promotoras/es de salud, outreach workers, community health advisors, peer health educators, and other frontline lay health workers. Presentations related to the CHW workforce should include CHWs as presenters and/or have CHWs involved in the creation of the abstract and presentation. Abstracts pertaining to the CHW workforce should describe within the text of the abstract whether CHWs will be presenting and/or the role CHWs played in the development of the abstract and presentation.


Abstract Proposal


Complete the abstract proposal application, including: the session title, session description, 3 learning objectives, preference for in-person vs. virtual, language of presentation and audiovisual requirements. Descriptions longer than 150 words will be edited to accommodate the conference program. Submit the proposal along with a resume or curriculum vitae and a short biographical sketch for each presenter.

    • Preferred Language for Presentation: English or Spanish. Please note that simultaneous interpretation services will not be available in all breakout sessions. We encourage presentations to be language accessible.

    • What venue is your presentation best designed for? (In-person, Virtual, Can be adapted for In-Person or Virtual).
    • Comments: Explanation for duration or language preference selected, if needed. Can you make your presentation longer or shorter? Are you able to present in English and/or Spanish?
  2. Step 2: Session Abstract

    Abstracts are peer-reviewed and selected on the basis of quality and clarity of the content, subject relevance, and strength of learning objectives. Abstracts should explain specific activities, methods, or techniques that will be used to facilitate participant engagement as well as applicable resources and/or tools that will be made available to attendees. We encourage presentations that are interactive and participatory.

    Abstracts pertaining to the Community Health Worker (CHW) workforce should describe within the text of the abstract whether CHWs will be presenting and/or the role CHWs played in the development of the abstract and presentation. NWRPCA promotes peer-to-peer learning, therefore presentations facilitated by CHWs will be given priority.

  3. Step 3: Learning Objectives

    Please enter one Learning Objective per text box. Learning objectives should be clearly stated, measurable, and attainable. Below are examples of strong Learning Objectives:

    1. Assess the common health care needs of agricultural workers.
    2. Identify barriers to accessing health care experienced by agricultural workers.
    3. List three best practices for providing health care to agricultural workers.
  4. Step 4: Session Description

    The Session Description should be a short summary of the Session Abstract. This will be included in the conference program and related marketing materials if the abstract is selected.

  5. Step 5: Presenters

    • One primary presenter is required.
      • Search for a presenter you would like to add by using email address or last name to find the names of presenters in the database.
      • If the person you are looking for is not found, select 'Not Found' from the search results, and enter the presenter's information.

    • Bio (Max 150 words)
  6. Step 6: Resume *for each presenter

    • All presenters are required to upload a resume.
  7. Step 7: Confirmation

    • Review your submission on this page.
    • If you are satisfied, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the 'Conclude Submission' button.
    • To edit your submission, click the step you would like to update on the menu to the left of the screen. Please note that you are able to make changes to your submission until the submission deadline.
